For over two hundred years students and young children have been cared for by the Dame Hannah Rogers School. Today the school meets the needs of young people who have complex physical difficulties, while many of them also have communication problems.

24 hours a day, 7 days a week, staff are dedicated to educating and caring for young people aged from 5 to 19 – helping turn their potential into achievement.

The school has an excellent reputation nationally. On the Ofsted national roll of honour, latest inspections have reported excellence in all aspects of the school’s activities and are available on the website and at the school.

Individuality, potential and self-worth are nurtured and developed in a family environment, where happiness is of prime importance.  Clear boundaries and expectations are set so that students learn to accept responsibility for themselves, develop self-advocacy and feel secure.

The school is supported by an active Board of Trustee and Governors.  Many friends and volunteers support the school in a variety of ways.

The fundamental aim of the school is to encourage students to move from potential to achievement so they are able to make the most of their opportunities in adult life.

This is what other people say about this excellent school;

  • ‘The curriculum is very good. It is greatly enhanced by the extended curriculum and by the high quality provision of residential care’ – Ofsted

  • ‘Respect, humour and consistent individual approaches underpin the way in which staff interact with young people’ – Commission for Social Care Inspection

  • ‘We have watched with delight how our little boy has grown and developed into a young man. All the teaching and care staff are a credit to this wonderful school and we would have no hesitation in recommending DHRS to other parents and carers.’ - Parent

Diane Hockin, London & Westcountry Estates Deputy Chairman is the Chair to the Trustees of this very special school housed on the edge of Dartmoor. All of the London & West Country team are helping Dame Hannah’s to raise £1m to build an urgently needed new Respite Centre.
